The Meaning of “Om” & the Heart of OM Sacred Sound Journeys

The word “Om” holds deep meaning—it is one of the ancient bija mantras, or seed sounds, believed to contain the essence of creation itself. In Sanskrit, bija means seed, and these sacred syllables are said to carry the vibration of divine energy.

As Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary, a neurologist, neuroscientist, Ayurvedic Practitioner, and sound medicine expert, explains: “Mantras are not words, but vibrational formulas designed to align the mind and body with universal energy.” The Sanskrit word mantra translates as Man (mind) + Tra (tool or vehicle)—a tool for the mind.

Bija mantras resonate at specific frequencies that harmonize and balance the chakras. Of all these sounds, Om is the most universal—a sacred vibration that symbolizes the origin of all creation and the connection between all beings.

Sound and music have been used across time and culture to heal, to celebrate, and to connect with the Divine. From indigenous shamans to ancient sages, sound has always been a pathway to transformation.

I chose the name OM Sacred Sound Journeys to reflect this truth: that sound is not only therapeutic, but sacred, and that through it, we can reconnect to our deepest selves.

Our mission is to help every being awaken the heart, mind, body, and spirit; to activate the innate healing power of sound; and to elevate collective consciousness through vibration, intention, and compassion.
