Hello, I’m Mj — a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), Sound Therapy Practitioner, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), musician, and intuitive. My passion lies in using the restorative power of music and sound to help others find balance, renewal, and peace — both within themselves and in their connection to the world around them.
Music has always been my medicine. Through the resonance of singing bowls, chimes, gongs, drums, and voice, I create spaces where people and animals can rest, release, and reconnect to their natural rhythm. Whether in a one-on-one session, a group sound bath, or a therapeutic setting, my intention is always the same — to help the body and spirit remember their own capacity to heal.
I’m a lifelong musician and multi-instrumentalist, playing piano, guitar, ukulele, and singing from the heart. Each instrument brings its own energy and voice, allowing me to weave together sounds that support deep listening, emotional expression, and energetic restoration.
Animals and nature have always been an essential part of my journey. I grew up surrounded by dogs, cats, and ducks, and now share life’s adventures with my miniature dachshund, Poppie. I also find great joy in spending time with horses — their presence has taught me so much about groundedness, communication, and trust. These connections continually inspire and inform my work with both humans and animals.
When I’m not making music, you can often find me writing, drawing, collaging, or simply being outside — listening to the quiet rhythms of the natural world. My work and my life are both guided by a simple intention: to create spaces where sound, silence, and spirit come together in harmony.
Mj Buck is a passionate advocate for wellness through music, sound, and nature.
Music has been at the heart of Mj’s life since the age of eight, when she began playing piano. She still treasures the baby grand piano her parents bought during her childhood—a beloved companion that has traveled with her across several states. Mj earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Centenary College of Louisiana, where her early love for the piano blossomed into a lifelong devotion to sound and expression.
Growing up surrounded by the vibrant music of the ’70s and ’80s—from disco and funk to soul, R&B, dance-pop, classic rock, metal, and English pop rock—Mj’s musical roots are diverse and deeply personal. Her first piano teacher introduced her to classical works such as Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, sparking a love for classical music that endures today. Her tastes continue to evolve, spanning indie rock, metal, grunge, alternative, indie folk, jazz, and beyond. She delights in exploring new genres and discovering emerging artists who move the spirit through sound.
A lifelong animal and nature lover, Mj grew up in Bossier City, Louisiana, spending her childhood outdoors—collecting caterpillars, frogs, clovers, and dandelions, and peering into the backyard ditch to find crawdads. She feels a deep connection to the natural world and a special affinity for horses and dogs. Today, she enjoys weekends at the dog beach with her miniature dachshund, Poppie, who brings constant joy and companionship.
Mj’s formal journey into music therapy began at Arizona State University, where she completed her music therapy equivalency in 2009. There, she developed a foundation in improvisation and songwriting as tools to promote wellness, emotional connection, anxiety relief, grief processing, and resilience. After earning her Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC), she provided individual and group sessions for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, later expanding her focus to behavioral and mental health for adults with serious mental illness and dual diagnoses at Arizona State Hospital.
At the hospital, Mj worked alongside a dynamic clinical team of music, art, and dance therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, psychiatrists, and medical professionals. She is also a HealthRhythms Group Empowerment Drumming Facilitator, trained by Christine Stevens, MSW, MT-BC, and Frank Thompson, professional drum circle facilitator, and continues to share the transformative power of rhythm through community drum circles.
In 2015, Mj earned her Master of Social Work degree from Arizona State University and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California in 2020. Her clinical specialties include complex trauma, PTSD, and attachment disorders—areas where she integrates creative, somatic, and sound-based approaches to support healing and resilience.
Mj’s sound therapy training includes mentorship with Andrea Cortez, MM, MT-BC, founder of Mind Body Music Center, and studies in sonic science and cymatics with acoustic physicist John Stuart Reid. Drawing from both scientific and spiritual traditions, Mj creates restorative experiences using sound and music to foster healing, calm, relaxation, and groundedness for both humans and animals. She considers this work sacred, honoring each individual’s unique healing journey and recognizing that sound can awaken deep emotional and spiritual transformation.
In her spiritual practice, Mj also works with Tarot and Oracle cards as tools of reflection and guidance. Influenced by intuitive and indigenous traditions, she uses these practices to help individuals identify emotional and spiritual blocks, uncover innate gifts, and align with their deeper purpose. Mj emphasizes that these readings are meant as guidance rather than prediction, always offered with compassion, integrity, and the intention of serving the highest good.

Sound is one of the most ancient forms of medicine. When I pause and truly listen — to the resonance within, to the whispers of nature, to the rhythm of the Earth — I feel the harmony that connects all things. In that sacred space of listening, healing naturally unfolds.” — Mj Buck
